Introduction | Task | Process | Evaluation | Conclusion | Credits | Teacher Page Hello Students! I hope you have your bags packed because we are going on a field trip to a tropical rainforest. You and a partner will work together to learn about a specific creature that lives in the rainforest. After finding out all about your creature, you will create a mask that represents its face and present everything you have learned to a group of children who do not know about these creatures of the rainforest. Are you ready to learn about them? The Task
You and your partner will be assigned a creature that is from the rainforest. You will use the internet and search engines to conduct research on your creature to answer questions on the research form. You will then find a photograph of your creature's face using the internet that you can print. Next, you will design and create a mask that represents your creature with provided materials. Finally, you and your partner will present everything that you have learned about your creature to a group of children as a final presentation using PowerPoint. The Process
You will be assigned to a partner and creature to perform the following tasks: Task 1 Print a copy of the Research Form and begin researching answers to the questions by using the links below: websites search engines
Task 2 Use the sites above to find a picture of your creature's face and print a copy by right clicking on the picture and selecting print. (This picture will be used to help design your mask for Task 3.)
Task 3 Design a mask that represents the face of your assigned creature using various materials provided in the art center. Remember to examine the Making a Mask Rubric before you begin creating your mask so you will know what is expected from you.
Task 4 Use the PowerPoint Rubric to create a PowerPoint that will be used to present the information you have learned about the creature you were assigned to.
Task 5 You and your partner will present based on the Presentation Rubric your PowerPoint presentation and completed mask from Tasks 3 and 4 to children who know little or nothing about your creature. Evaluation
Your performance will be evaluated using rubrics for Tasks 3-5 as shared assignments with your partner. Conclusion
You have now researched and learned about several creatures that live in the rainforest. You have used your computer skills by searching the web for information, copying and printing from the web, working hands-on to create a representation of a creature, used presentation software to create a PowerPoint and presented what you now know to your peers. You have learned scientific names, diets, strata of the rainforest in which the creatures live, and the conservation status of creatures that you are familiar with. You now have the knowledge to compare and contrast creatures of the rainforest during a future lesson. Credits & References
